Suga completed his military discharge on June 21, officially ending BTS’s service hiatus. His return came with renewed apologies for a past DUI incident that had stirred public criticism. While reactions were mixed online, many fans welcomed the group’s long-awaited reunion and looked ahead with hope.
BTS Ends Military Chapter with Suga Completing Service
On June 21, Suga concluded his alternative military service. This officially closed BTS’s long period of military hiatus. Due to a previous shoulder injury, he fulfilled his duty as a Social Service Personnel instead of serving in the military. While the official discharge date was June 21, Suga finished his service on June 18 by using up his remaining vacation days. BigHit Music confirmed the news in a statement and kindly asked fans not to visit the site. They explained that no formal event would be held to mark the occasion. This quiet and low-key discharge stood in clear contrast to the public excitement that surrounded earlier returns of other BTS members.
Suga Faces Discharge with Reflection and Regret
Suga’s discharge was not just a time for celebration. It was also a moment of personal accountability and reflection. On the same day, he addressed his past DUI case again and expressed regret for the electric scooter incident from August last year. At the time, he received a fine of 15 million KRW through summary judgment. The case damaged his image and disappointed many fans. In a letter posted on Weverse, he said he felt truly sorry for letting fans down and apologized for burdening the other members emotionally. His words were humble and sincere, showing his desire to make amends and grow from the experience. However, the timing reminded many of the shadow cast by the incident.
Public Opinion Splits as Suga Rejoins After Discharge
As news of Suga’s return spread, reactions across online communities revealed a noticeable divide in sentiment. On the platform theqoo, many users expressed frustration and disappointment, criticizing Suga for harming BTS’s image through both his DUI case and earlier careless remarks. Some users even commented that he had gathered a significant number of anti-fans in recent years. However, on another community, MLBPARK, the responses were somewhat different. While his past comments still drew criticism, the DUI incident was largely overlooked by users. Despite the varying tones, one common thread across platforms was that BTS had finally completed its military service era, which many saw as a milestone worth recognizing.
All Members Discharged, BTS Begins a New Chapter
Now that Suga has returned, every member of BTS has completed his military duty, marking the true end of the group’s hiatus. Jin started his service in December 2023 and was discharged this June, followed by j-hope in October. RM and V completed their service on June 10, while Jungkook and Jimin returned the following day on June 11. With the final member now back, BTS is finally whole again. Although Suga’s situation has stirred controversy, fans are shifting focus to the group’s future. As the military chapter closes, excitement grows about what BTS will create next, and many are ready to support them with renewed anticipation.

Our beloved Suga is finally home! The whole BTS puzzle is complete now. Even on his discharge day, he was still apologizing to us. He really didn’t need to apologize so much for just falling off his electric scooter by himself! Koreans might have been harsh, but international ARMYs love Suga unconditionally. I really hope Suga knows how much we abroad love him, no matter what!
